Plot: Martin Brody is the new police chief of Amity, an island resort town somewhere in New England. He has a wife named Ellen, and two sons named Michael and Sean. On a Summer morning, Brody is called to the beach, where the mangled body of Summer vacationer Chrissie Watkins has washed ashore. The medical examiner tells Brody that it could have been a shark that killed Watkins. Mayor Larry Vaughn, who is desperate to not lose the money that will be brought in by 4th of July tourists, wants Brody to say Watkins’s death was caused by a motorboat propeller instead of a shark, because the thought of a shark in Amity’s waters would drive tourists away from Amity. It looks like Vaughn is a mayor who puts money ahead of people’s lives. Shark expert Matt Hooper believes Watkins was killed by a shark. Hooper is proven right a few days later, when Alex Kintner is killed by the shark that killed Watkins. Looking for the quickest solution, Vaughn tells all of the local fishermen to let him know if they see the shark. A shark hunter named Quint offers to find the shark and kill it, but Vaughn thinks Quint’s price of $10,000 is too high. When a tiger shark is killed and hauled in by a couple of boaters, Vaughn hastily says that the shark crisis is over, but Hooper says the shark that’s been killing people a huge great white shark is still in Amity’s waters, but Vaughn leaves the beaches opened because all he cares about is the 4th of July tourist money. On the 4th of July, Vaughn encourages people to swim at the beach, and Hooper is proven right again when the shark kills a man, biting the man’s leg off. Michael, who was in the water at the time of the attack, is taken to the hospital, where he’s treated for shock after watching the shark kill the guy. Brody asks Vaughn to hire Quint to find the shark. Because his own kids were at that beach too, Vaughn agrees to hire Quint to find the shark. Quint, Hooper, and Brody are sent out to sea in Quint’s boat, the Orca, ready to do whatever it takes to find the shark.

swollen lymph nodes and canker sores after vaccine?
I had my DTap booster shot today. I am 14 years old btw. Anyway, after the shot i ran a low grade fever, body aches, headache (all the usual). But after a few days I still have some lingering symptoms. Three days after the vaccine i noticed some pain on the end of my jaw between it and my neck and there was a painful bump that felt like a lymph node. Five days after the vaccine i suddenly developed a bad canker sore, very painful on the inside of my mouth beneath the right cheek. Are these normal side effects of such a vaccine?

No, those aren’t typical side effects. It’s probably unrelated, you’re probably fighting off cold or flu, but I would make a call and talk to someone in the doctor’s office just to be sure.

Given your age, I hope what you got was TDaP, rather than DTaP. There is a difference, though not one most people realize. At any rate, the things you noticed most likely have nothing to do with your vaccination. Those three diseases are bacterial, and a lymph reaction is most often due to a viral infection. Your canker sore might be the result of your immune system being on the alert after the vaccination though. The vaccine is meant to trigger an immune response after all, and sometimes those white blood cells can get a little over-reactive. Nobody knows what causes them in most cases though, and it’s not easy to say. Fortunately those sores usually resolve all by themselves in about 2 weeks at the most, and don’t need any particular treatment. But you might want to have a doctor give you a good going over. The lump is likely a lymph node, and if you have an infection they can find, it might respond best to an antibiotic. It’s all probably just a nasty coincidence more than anything, though. The other things are normal and expected reactions to a shot- the low fever, aches, etc. It confirms your immune system is actually working. It could also account for that lymph node lump- if you needed to form a lot of antibodies for some reason. Just see the doctor and have it checked. For your mouth there are some mouthwashes that will help with the pain as well, and you can ask at the pharmacy for those remedies.
